Day 9-Goodbye Edinburgh-On the Way Home
Goodbye Scotland
Hanging at Heathrow!
We caught some of the Kings Scottish coronation ceremony that we missed while eating at Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food restaurant! A suggestion from our tour guide and a great way be!!
Visiting London and the surrounding areas has always been on my bucket list. Of course being a true crime fan, it is hard not to be fascinated by the Jack the Ripper. There is so much content on Jack the Ripper, that it is hard to know what to examine & worse, what to believe. There are sites that feature the history of his crimes , coverage from many media organizations like the History Channel, tours that walk you in Jacks's footsteps through the streets of London and even lots of Merch!
There are also personal reasons, I would like to visit London for a longer time. My grandfather served in World War II flying missions for the US Army's Air Corps. Many of those missions took of from Great Dunmow Air Base about 45 miles North & east of London. On March 5, 1944 he was shot down on his 33rd Mission over Abbeville, France. For a long time, he was mistakenly listed as Killed in Action. His name appears listed among those who perished in a number of places near Great Dunmow. After 18 months as a POW in Nazi Prison Camps, he was liberated and the rest is history....or I would not be here. To visit the Dunmow region would bring me closer to my grandfathers past.
Look for more pictures and stories of Scotland in the coming weeks
